Above picture from this date in 2013.  With the temperature over 40 and at the moment sun shining, there isn’t going to be any snow left when this day ends, even in Suttons Bay.  Tomorrow, rain.  Back in the 1950’s, my wife along with many other Lelanders took ski lessons with Peppi Teichner at Sugar Loaf Mt. and in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s our family enjoyed Christmas week skiing the “Loaf”.  Great memories of Christmas week in Leelanau County.  Someday it might be that way again.

Thinking back to a “Christmas week” in the late 80’s as Commodore of the LYC, I sanctioned a sailboat race with 3 boats skippered by Ed Collins, Norb Gits and Dave Workum.  The temperature was in the 60’s and the Leland Country Club had a full house on the links.  New Year’s Day, Lake Leelanau had a inch of ice and the temperature was in the 20’s.  So you never know.
