The sudden melting hasn’t changed the beachscape as the persistent west and northwest winds have swept and kept the beach clean of snow all winter.  The inset is the Biscuit Report from one year ago yesterday.  What’s left of this winters snow remains in plow mounds.  After a rainy, foggy  and in general dreary day, the sun has returned.  Tomorrow the temperature drops 15 degrees and return back into the 50’s on Friday.  Early thaws are not good for both cherries and grapes.  The JOY is being readied to start fishing soon.

I’m skeptical of the difference in snowfall totals between Maple City and Suttons Bay.

I doubt Maple City measures snow with the same tenacity as Leif so I tend to believe Leif. Plus, Suttons Bay gets lake effect from both sides. Maple City is further inland.

…I’m puzzled by the appearance of what looks like a cloud-like form between M22 and the trees behind it? Is it mist?

Thanks for the images of ice-breakup on the Leland river and Lake Leelanau. It was part of the freedom of letting go of snowpants and heavy boots as I walked to and from Leland School, seeing Lake Michigan as I walked down the hill from school, always checking the river on both sides as I walked across the bridge.
