Help
I no longer receive an email when a new Leland Report is posted!
One of the biggest changes to the website is that there will no longer be a daily email sent out when a new report is posted.  All emails will cease starting on 2/20/2010.  The resources required to send that many emails out was more than we could manage.  The hundreds of non-delivery emails we get back every day was more than I cared to handle.

The email acts only as a link to the web site. It opens up your browser automatically and does the same thing as visiting the site and adding it as a favorite. I invite people to start using services like http://www.changedetection.com or http://www.changedetect.com which will send you an email if it detects a web page you specify changes in any substantial way.   You will not get instant notification, however.  It runs once a day and you will get notified when it runs if there was a change detected.

The other option is to use the new RSS feed (denoted by the RSS Feed link at the top right)  In Internet Explorer, simply click on RSS Feed and then Favorites and "Subscribe to this Feed".  You can set up feeds to download the latest list as often as you wish.  For other browsers or programs, check the Help file of your favorite one.

Why the upgrade?
The Leland Report started as a education tool to learn server-side web page technology over ten years ago.  That technology has been enhanced many times since then and this is a way to again learn new things and apply them to this website at the same time.  Plus I'm free to make mistakes here.  Better that than where I work!  Plus the use of the site outgrew its original design many years ago.
So what's new?
  • RSS Feeds!  This replaces the daily email.  Now your RSS feed can check for changes to the website and my inbox stays error-free!
  • We have a new, more robust user profile area.  It's much easier to join, login and update your account.
  • We included a new scroller showing a week's worth of reports at the top
  • Commenting has a new seamless pop-up design, no more going to a separate page to add a comment
  • Plus, you have up to 15 minutes after leaving a comment to make changes if you spelled something is wrong or want to take back what you said!  ;)
  • Insert links and images to your comments (not only for the technical savvy anymore)  See below for more info.
  • Browsing past photos is now in a calendar view
I've forgotten my password!
Use the "I forgot my password" link beneath the login form at the top right of the page.  We will reset your password and you will get an email with a temporary password you can change by going to "My Profile"
Adding Links and Images to your comments
Although we do not allow inserting HTML into comments anymore (There is an inherent risk in allowing that), you can add them using special strings that will be translated when displayed on the screen.
  • To add a link,  simply add the path to the page:  http://www.google.com
  • If it's a very long link, enclose a short word or phrase in brackets at the end of the link like:  [short link]
  • The link will look like this:  http://www.google.com[shortlink]
To add an image, do the following:
  • Start you image with:  [img
  • Then, add the direct path to the image:  http://www.exampledomain.com/images/pic_1.jpg
  • (Note: this is only an example and it will differ based on what website hosts the image)
  • You can also add alignment to the image:  align=right  will line the image to the right side with the text to the left.  align=left will do the opposite
  • Then, close the tag with:  img]
  • Your link should look similar to this:  [img http://www.exampledomain.com/images/pic_1.jpg align=right img]
