Around 1:30 this morning, Mother Nature came roaring in with thunder, lightning, heavy rain and wind.  15 minutes later, all was quiet.  The large log on the shoreline has been buried halfway in the sand since winter, 400 to 500 feet south.

Biscuit had his picture taken with an admiring family from Morton, IL this afternoon, whose name was to hard to pronounce let alone spell.  My late brother John lived in Morton.  The sky cleared and the beach was again inhabitable.

When we were in Leland, something emerged from the sand in shallow water at Vans. It looked to me like part of a wharf or something. My neighbor, Cris, said stuff just shifts along the shore. Kind of gets pushed around by the lake.

It was no Manitou Lake Monster, Jeff...it's the ribs and planks of an old wrecked wooden ship. They're all along the coast, usually in chunks, and appear and disappear fairly regularly. To other readers: It's in the water on Van's beach, just off shore. Cool to see but dangerous to swim around...lots of iron rods sticking up out of the huge timbers.
