The beautiful Pontiac convertible caused me to look up its history in Wikipedia. Pontiac named the engine (not the car) the Silver Streak 8. It was a smooth, quiet in-line “flat head” engine design and Pontiac used it for 22 years, starting in the fall of 1932. In 1955 it was replaced with a modern (overhead valve, etc.) V8 and Pontiac changed their image to “performance.”
