Vol XIX – #130 – Yacht Club News

The Leland Yacht Club will host the National One-Design Championship regatta for the twentieth time since 1950. Local sailors expected to participate include Biff Steel and Dave Higley. Races are expected to begin at 10:30 am Thursday through Saturday, with the award ceremony Saturday afternoon.

(Report by Jim) I see so many shots of Fishtown that I know it has most of the love. I personally have an affinity for it, but I thought today I would show a little love for East Leland, Omena, and Northport. Some more jewels on the peninsula.

Vol XIX – #126 – Creatures Great and Small

A storm rolled through Leland yesterday and I must have headed in the wrong direction because the images I saw over the harbor were great. But I always go to the harbor, so I headed out to East Leland instead. Earlier today, I zoomed in on my Mom’s Daisy garden and found a hitchhiker.  

Vol XVIII – #309 – Lighthouses From a Different Angle

Report by Jim Saturday, I took M22 and M31 down the whole state up to 196. Stopped at Pt. Betsie, Grand Haven, and Muskegon. Another first, as I have never visited these lighthouses in the winter. Lots of people applauded me for wearing chains on my shoes, as they slipped and slid all around the ice-covered walkway.

Vol XVIII – #308 – Close Call and a Breakwall

Report by Jim Fishtown in Lights is back.The mortgage burning was postponed because of the ice storm, but the lights still went on at 6pm. Marsha Burnette of Fishtown Preservation was there with a sign for me while Andrew McFarland of leelanau.com recorded a message about Fishtown as the lights went on.
