Another beautiful cool get-up. one of the amenities we enjoy is crisp clean air.  I mentioned yesterday that I would post a couple of pictures of the summer cottage that was torn down on Cemetery Point.  The cottage was owned by Edmund and Virginia Ball, ideal for entertaining with panoramic views of North Lake Leelanau.  I photographed every room and exterior wall for the Leelanau Historical Museum.  I would hope that the museum has a history of the architecture.

Below, Biscuit and Binky waiting for a handout as they do every morning.

We are also neighbor to the south of the new ‘cottage’. The rumor is they are building some kind of a ‘rehab center’ rather than a cottage, and if so we are perplexed how tit got approved despite the opposition of their neighbors. In fairness this is all hearsay, and we may be misinformed. It IS huge and seems completely out of character with the surrounding area, and the owners of the point have gone out of their way in the past to be rude to their neighbors.

Just read the 12 page spread (I exaggerate), on the house, including a photograph and an interview with the owners, in the Leelanau Enterprise. Really. Seems a bit self-adoration to me. I’m borderline appalled. The house is a travesty. And, frankly, if I built a house like that, I wouldn’t want to admit it. Just my opinion. Too bad the Point is being plundered that way.

Nice picture of Ball Cottage. We don’t know the architect definitively but we can offer a possibility. We live in the house to the south of this one. Same architecture and exact same bricks. Our house was built by Ball friend Ray Appelgate who I believe was a home builder. Our guess is he Applegate built it.
