A couple of sunset photos from Meggen for Monday’s Leland Report. I’m including Jim’s report below from a couple of days ago because it is important to be aware of the struggle facing the commercial fishery, and be in contact with your representatives voicing support. I firmly believe the Great Lakes are big enough for the continuity of all forms of fishing. If you want greater context for what’s happening now, I highly recommend that you read Dan Egan’s The Death and Life of the Great Lakes, focusing in particular on pages 80-100. It’s a well-researched book that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

If you were not aware, there is a struggle going on in the Michigan Legislature regarding commercial fishing rights on Lake Michigan. It could possibly mean the end of commercial fishing in Leland. Please read about the current situation and do what you can to pressure your representatives to do the right thing for the remaining family-owned and struggling commercial fisheries in the state.
