Vol XVI # 004 – A April Snow Day

No surprises this morning when the snow began to fall except for the amount.  The forecast said 1 inch accumulation and we got 3.  Actually it was a lot of fun to see half dollar sized snowflakes falling at times.  Tomorrow is good for 3 more.  Tuesday back up into the 40’s, so much for April snow.

Vol XV #326 – They Say Sunshine… Maybe

Nothing much happening around town today.  The weather people say that there will be sunshine… someplace, but not here yet.  In fact, at the moment there are snowflakes in the air.  In the forecast… warming for a couple of days with possible rain drops. And then, of course, falling temperatures. The Leland Report Book is going to happen! 120 Pages… Read more »

Vol XV #322 – It’s A Real Winter Day

D No doubt about it…  It’s a real winter day.  Visibility zero at times on the road and only one car without headlights.  Two degrees at get-up is the coldest so far this season, the record low is 10 below.  Not many people out today. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We… Read more »

Vol XV #321 – Now You See, Now You Don’t

No doubt about it… this has to be the worst day of the season with the wind blowing at over 30 mph, periods of lake effect snow and visibility near zero at times.  Drove to Lake Leelanau for recycling in a total whiteout.  Amazing how many cars have no headlights and I thought it was mandatory.  The scary cars are white and appear… Read more »

Vol XV #317 – Meggen’s Monday

Some great cloud patterns Sunday afternoon. It was a pleasant day to be in the great outdoors. I went back to the harbor to check on the otter population, which appears to be holding steady at about 7. Otters are cute and all, but they also make a mess of things wherever they hang out. Just saying…   The Leland… Read more »

Vol XV #310 – Meggen’s Monday

It’s a bright February morning! Grab your sunglasses and enjoy. Today we’re bringing you an update on the renovation of the trap net boat Joy. The new paint is the same kelly green as the original; it fades after years of exposure to the sun. The painting is made possible by the warmer weather, since the indoor temperature must be at… Read more »

Vol XV #309 – Rain, Then Snow

Another dark get-up, but the days are getting longer.  The weather people promised us rain and they delivered.  The prospect of wet snow turning to ice is probable as the temperature will be dropping below freezing overnight. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!

Vol XV #308 – A Nice Day, 40 Degrees, Some Sunshine

A dark get-up, which has been the routine this month.  Sky opened up shortly after noon, but you can see on the horizon for the weather to arrive in the early morning tomorrow… Rain!…  Which will mix with snow later in the day.  Weather watch for Tuesday calls for snow. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had… Read more »

Vol XV #307 – The Day the Sun Came Out

It’s amazing what a lot of sunshine can do for your mental health.  A little bit of sunshine helps, but a lot really does the job.  Anyway, it was a nice day to go to Suttons Bay   The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!
