Vol XV #306 – What Clipper?

We were waiting for the Clipper to arrive at around 7 pm last night with 1 to 3 inches of new snow.  It did arrive, but with drizzle and was on it’s way east 45 minutes later.  35 degrees at get-up and breezy.  Upper 30’s and 40’s predicted for the weekend which is needed to get rid of a lot of… Read more »

Vol XV #304 – Whatta Ya Know… Drizzle and then Snow

Woke up this morning and guess what… three inches of new and drizzle.  With the temperature around 35 degrees, it bounced back and forth between snow and drizzle.  Not a very nice day, but not the worst we ever had. On Nov 28, we were fortunate to tag along with the crew of the Joy when it moved into the shop for… Read more »

Vol XV #303 – Meggen’s Monday

Still dark and dreary, but the otters come out to play anyway. It’s just warm enough today that the precipitation is rain: at least that’s what’s happening this morning. So I’ll share a couple more glimpses of sunlit snow from Saturday.   The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will… Read more »

Vol XV #302 – What Can I Say… It’s Sunday Gray

Dark and dreary, that’s about all I can say after that sunshine tease yesterday. Sad News Dept. Received news this morning from our daughter Mary that Gary’s father Cecil passed away last night after a long illness. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!

Vol XV #301 – Sunshine !! If Only For Awhile

The sunshine was greeted with smiles, but only lasted for a half day and the clouds returned.  The best thing about it was… no snow.  I’m tired of moving snow around.  Just think, only 2 more months of winter.       Sad News Dept. Received news of the passing of Diana Silvius Gits, pictured below many Leland summers ago.  Was… Read more »

Vol XV #299 – Forever Flaking

Another day, another day with snowflakes.  No accumulation, just flaking.  Fantastic sunset last night with the hope of more sunshine today, but… it’s flaking out.  Just kidding, it’s actually not that bad out, no wind and not that cold.  The southeast and east coast are in store for a massive blizzard with projections of two to three feet of snow.  19 states… Read more »

Vol XV #293 – Dark, Gloomy and Drizzley

Tried to navigate the path to North Beach, but snow was too deep for these sorry legs of mine.  Biscuit had no trouble at all. Below – Boones new addition in Suttons Bay.  The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!

Vol XV #291 – Still Blowin and Still Snowin

The wind continues to blow, gusting to 20 and30 mph.  The path leading down to Van’s Beach this morning was drifted and with the wind, was a little too much for my legs.  Was able to get down to South Beach, but with the blowing snow, no pictures were worth taking.  With near whiteout conditions, there are people who drive without… Read more »

Vol XV #277 – The Day Before the Last Day of the Year

I couldn’t make it to my usual destination, South Fishtown, because of the depth of snow… so I ventured over to South Beach.  I walked in the footprints of previous visitors.  That’s probably the way I will travel on foot for the rest of the winter, walking in other peoples footprints. The Leelanau County Road Commission gets our applause for the great job… Read more »
