A busy time here in Lelandtown with art shows, 5K runs and Summinars. Something for everyone. Very impressive is the number of outstanding artists we have here in Leelanau County. I’ve always aspired to be an artist of some sort since I was able to hold a pencil or crayon as child. Later I wanted to be a cartoonist and taught myself by copying Walt Disney characters and later on created my own. I was fortunate to be the editorial cartoonist for the Riverside Landmark newspaper for 10 years back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. For more than 30 years I drew the artwork for the Barbecruise invitation. Back in the 60’s I had 3 cartoon art shows at the Bluebird the same night that the Michigan State Art School would have their Art Show at the Old Art Building. I’m currently feathered at the Historical Museum in the Norbert Gits new addition with my pen & ink illustrations of Fishtown fisherman. I consider myself an illustrator, not an artist because I can’t set up an easel and paint a picture like the artist above. I did paint a picture with 90 cents worth of poster colors in 1960 of Fishtown from a photograph and never painted one again.
Saw your show in the Museum. Very impressive. Love your cartoons, too.
Mr. Burnham, I have enjoyed this site for many years, but this is the first time I’ve posted a comment. You may not consider yourself a painter, but you are most definitely an artist!! Your ‘works of art’ have been beckoning me to visit this beautiful place. My husband and I will be visiting for the first time this September. Thank you for my daily inspiration.
Thank you, Paula!
Your large pen-and-ink illustration of the Miller House is framed and has been the central feature of my living room for more than 30 years. It is a treasure.
Lovely clear clean blue pics today, thanks for sharing your talent Mr. B! I have seen some of your illustrations, I think they are very Artistic!
One of your “illustrations” is framed and hanging in my mother in laws den and is an illustration of her house. It is a treasure. She also has some stationery of the illustration and uses it to this day! Thank you.
