The Joy Looks Upstream

Taking today to reflect, with gratitude, all who answered the call to serve our great nation. In particular those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We remember. May we all find a moment to pause, hand on heart, this Memorial Day.

It’s worth noting that the Leelanau Conservancy’s Houdek Dunes hosts beautiful ladies slippers and these should come into bloom in the next several days. Pro tip, while you’re up near Gills Pier: Fischer’s Happy Hour Tavern has an appetizer worth tasting: local asparagus wrapped in bacon and drizzled with orange ginger sauce. They should have it for the next couple of weeks, beautifully overlapping the time frame of the wild orchid display.

Since I live a long way from Gills Pier I shall try to produce the scrumptious-sounding appetizer by guess and by gosh, but I’m gonna give it a go! Yum!… Read more »
