Jim’s report: Today I am giving you a few things some of you have probably have never experienced before and I invite you to visit. The first photo is the Janice Sue which is in Arcadia for a marine survey (Take State St to the harbor from M22) . I’ve never seen the keel of the Janice Sue, have you? The photo above is the new boardwalk at Arcadia Marsh. It is new and fully handicap accessible! High lake levels have submerged the original path that I took last about two years ago.
High lake levels are also going to turn Pt Betsie into a winter wonderland this year. It will be a treacherous walk once the beach turns to solid ice, so wear cramp-ons if you go here. You know about the Leelanau Conservancy, but what about the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy? I ran across the Green Point Dunes Nature Preserve Trail for the first time today. (Green Point Rd off M22 between Upper and Lower Herring Lakes and Elberta/Frankfort. Lake levels threaten the stairway down to the beach, so the last section has been removed. Still a nice trail. You start the trail at the top, so remember you have to walk up coming back. 😉
