A couple inches of snow fell overnight replacing what we lost yesterday. My goal was to hike Leelanau Conservancy trails Shauger Hill and Windy Moraine, but ended up hiking up Pierce Stocking to the N Bar Lake and Lake Michigan overlooks first instead (having completely missed the Shauger Hill trailhead at the entrance to the parking lot). Pierce Stocking Drive is closed for the season, so hiking, snowshoes and x-country skis are your only choices for this route. My next stop was to Windy Hill Moraine trail across the street. Overall, 5.6 miles in today.
Thanks to everyone who has supported our project throughout the years. We all know how special and “one-of-a-kind” this area is and we have enjoyed bringing out that uniqueness in our images. Love to you all! -Keith and Jim

I wonder what kind of shoes do you hike 5-6 miles in a day like this, Great pictures!
Hiking boots, of course!
Nothing better than to have the Pierce Stocking Overlook to yourself in the winter! Not that challenging of a hike up and back either. I once got my Jeep stuck on the Shauger Hill road (is it really a “road” though?) (and this was before we all had cell phones!). What I wouldn’t give to see the view of the impending winter storm from the new and improved Alligator Hill trail viewing area! (And Happy 2022!)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the calendar! So happy I got enough for our eight daughters and three sisters! Thoroughly enjoy the Leland Report!
These are beautiful! So wish I was seeing these places in person and experiencing them with my family. Over the years, the Leland Report has made keeping that connection to a place I love “real”…even from here in sunny and annoyingly-warm St. Augustine. Ongoing thanks and gratitude for all the effort.
Your photographic eye & energy never cease to amaze me.
Love the hat !
Keep on trucking..great hikes!!!
