Looking back to one year ago today, the snow totals were 89 inches in Maple City and 113 in Suttons Bay. The temperature was 30 degrees and the wind was out of the west at 10 mph. The difference being that one year ago we had abundant sunshine. You can check this out by clicking on “Archive” above the small LR pictures. Every “Report” is available back to March 30th 2001. This “El Nino” winter has become “Lake Effect” winter because of the lack of ice on Big Blue and a series of “clippers” that are dropping a couple of inches every couple of days.
Anyway there is plenty of snow for cross country, shoeing, sledding and shoveling, but too much for ice boating and skating. This is a AWD/4WD winter and for those with just two wheels, you’re lucky you have the Leelanau County Road Commission scrapping the roads clean.
The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!
Love the pics, we don’t have any snow down here in the lower area so as much as I am ready for Spring, a view of snow is kinda nice…..
Winter in all it’s glory . Thanks for the great pictures !
