It’s still early in the winter, with the ground gradually freezing under foot. A short walk along Lake Michigan at the north end of Route 651 (still accessible with a truck) shows winter happening. If you pause long enough, you can almost detect the sound of snow touching the ground, or water forming into ice… a moment of beautiful stillness.  Â

Yesterday was a day to stoke the fire and sip a favorite beverage while watching the snow flakes slowly fall to whatever was below them–tops of birdfeeders, clotheslines, rose canes, whatever was below. I and my spouse made a comment now and then and together we prepared a simple supper with three candles of our Advent Wreath spilling yellow light over the kitchen table. Yesterday was Gaudete Sunday–Rejoice! The memory of the great moment is soon to occur.
