We are having a streak of weather that could be mistaken for summer, with the possible exception of many leaves showing non-green hues. Today’s photographs are again from within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The park has a “Trekker’s Challenge,” to hike “all” (13) mainland trails within a year (which I finished this weekend). Dad accompanied me on the most challenging of… Read more »

More peak color with a tiny bit of sunshine. Last week, I took the photograph of DH Day Barn with the dewey spiderweb in the morning fog. It was sufficiently spooky-looking to wait for Halloween to roll it out. Happy Halloween, everyone! The 2017 Leland Report Calendar is now shipping! New low price! The Leelanau is a perfect place to fully embrace each of the four seasons. We are in the middle of a bonanza of oranges, yellows, and reds: this morning, raindrops and sunbeams intensified the colors. Today’s photographs are from within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. By sunrise yesterday, I was deep in the park, hiking through morning fog, enjoying… Read more »

From mostly cloudy to fantastic cloudy, what a sky show.! We have had terrific cloud formations the past couple of days. A one mile per hour northeast wind provided us with a picture taking calm Big Blue.

Today’s report is by Jim. Even when it’s dark, the color of the sunset lingers. Most people leave, but I stay because a camera, with a long exposure set, can capture color that is not visible to the eye. It smooths out waves, draws out clouds and simplifies chaos. It doesn’t matter when you’re there, this is Happy Hour… Read more »
