Some great cloud patterns Sunday afternoon. It was a pleasant day to be in the great outdoors. I went back to the harbor to check on the otter population, which appears to be holding steady at about 7. Otters are cute and all, but they also make a mess of things wherever they hang out. Looking back to one year ago today, the snow totals were 89 inches in Maple City and 113 in Suttons Bay. The temperature was 30 degrees and the wind was out of the west at 10 mph. The picture above shows the shoreline that has been battered by southwest, west, northwest winds that have eroded the beach to the degree that I’m at least 6 or more feet above the beach. One of the reasons is the lack of ice on the Great Lakes. This of course contributes to lake effect snow and the lack of sunshine. … Read more »
A great sunrise somewhere this morning, but not here. A fog rolled over North Lake Leelanau at sunrise and East Leland disappeared. Biscuit and I arrived in Fishtown just as a burst of sunshine created a picture postcard and by the time we arrived at Van’s Beach, fog again. Another dark get-up, but the days are getting longer. The weather people promised us rain and they delivered. We were waiting for the Clipper to arrive at around 7 pm last night with 1 to 3 inches of new snow.
