Vol XV #313 – Another Winter Day

The picture above shows the shoreline that has been battered by southwest, west, northwest winds that have eroded the beach to the degree that I’m at least 6 or more feet above the beach.  One of the reasons is the lack of ice on the Great Lakes.  This of course contributes to lake effect snow and the lack of sunshine. … Read more »

Vol XV #312 – A Picture Postcard Moment… Just For a Moment

A great sunrise somewhere this morning, but not here.  A fog rolled over North Lake Leelanau at sunrise and East Leland disappeared.  Biscuit and I arrived in Fishtown just as a burst of sunshine created a picture postcard and by the time we arrived at Van’s Beach, fog again.    The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had… Read more »

Vol XV #311 – Soon It’s Gonna Snow… Err… Rain… Err…

A great sunrise this morning with a clear blue sky, something we haven’t seen for while.  It didn’t take long for the clouds to take over as are in the path of another winter storm.  Blizzard conditions on the other side of Big Blue while on this side we are expecting 1 to 3 inches of heavy wet snow, then… Read more »

Vol XV #309 – Rain, Then Snow

Another dark get-up, but the days are getting longer.  The weather people promised us rain and they delivered.  The prospect of wet snow turning to ice is probable as the temperature will be dropping below freezing overnight. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!

Vol XV #308 – A Nice Day, 40 Degrees, Some Sunshine

A dark get-up, which has been the routine this month.  Sky opened up shortly after noon, but you can see on the horizon for the weather to arrive in the early morning tomorrow… Rain!…  Which will mix with snow later in the day.  Weather watch for Tuesday calls for snow. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had… Read more »

Vol XV #307 – The Day the Sun Came Out

It’s amazing what a lot of sunshine can do for your mental health.  A little bit of sunshine helps, but a lot really does the job.  Anyway, it was a nice day to go to Suttons Bay   The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!

Vol XV #306 – What Clipper?

We were waiting for the Clipper to arrive at around 7 pm last night with 1 to 3 inches of new snow.  It did arrive, but with drizzle and was on it’s way east 45 minutes later.  35 degrees at get-up and breezy.  Upper 30’s and 40’s predicted for the weekend which is needed to get rid of a lot of… Read more »

Vol XV #305 – Clipper On the Way

No new snow this am, but still had to shovel maybe an inch left over from last night.  The forecast is calling for a Clipper system to come ashore this evening around 7 with 1 to 3 inches perhaps.  The problem with that forecast is that rain may develop. Below is my personal tribute to someone who was a major… Read more »

Vol XV #304 – Whatta Ya Know… Drizzle and then Snow

Woke up this morning and guess what… three inches of new and drizzle.  With the temperature around 35 degrees, it bounced back and forth between snow and drizzle.  Not a very nice day, but not the worst we ever had. On Nov 28, we were fortunate to tag along with the crew of the Joy when it moved into the shop for… Read more »

Vol XV #302 – What Can I Say… It’s Sunday Gray

Dark and dreary, that’s about all I can say after that sunshine tease yesterday. Sad News Dept. Received news this morning from our daughter Mary that Gary’s father Cecil passed away last night after a long illness. The Leland Report/Leif Spork Snow Gauge contest is closed. We had a total of 47 entries. We will report the final tally on 4/30/16!
