With all the water coming down this week, I thought I’d build on one of the photos from a couple of days ago. Water beading on the back of leaves, or any hydrophobic surface, is due to a phenomenon known as the “lotus effect” or superhydrophobicity. This effect primarily results from the combination of two key factors: the physical structure… Read more »

Hi, it’s been a while, I know. With everything going on, it was a nice day to take the red jeep out and do some shopping. The apple trees on Pertner and Macksey were being picked and I stopped to take a picture before they were cleared out. For what it’s worth, we will not be printing a… Read more »

I am back in Illinois, but on the way down I stopped at some of my favorite places. Pointe Betsie, Arcadia Marsh, and Big Sable Lighthouse. Pointe Betsie was pretty crowded, so I parked back by the nature conservancy trail and walked around the dunes. I always stop at this twisted pine deadfall on the way back. My friend Gwenn Stevenson sent me over to the Overheard in Leelanau Facebook page for the video of this group of… Read more »

I am up for over a week before heading up to Drummond Island with Deb for a Jeep Jamboree. I’m not driving this year, the Grand Cherokee has been on three Jamborees and has seen better days. At 160k miles, I rather not hasten its demise. I caught the sunset in Frankfort on the way up on Sunday. The original… Read more »
