A perfect fall day, complete with wind blowing leaves every which way, and not too cold. It started out with a pre-dawn line-up of Venus, Jupiter, and Mars. At sunset last night, the freighter Great Lakes Trader and tug Joyce L. VanEnkevort moved slowly through the Manitou Passage. Same place, 24 hours earlier – windy, wavy, and chilly, with a hundred… Read more »

Another everything you can think of day with dark drizzly clouds at sunrise with an occasional snowflake. The dark clouds moved slowly to the east with puffy whites moving in with a background of blue. Early afternoon we toured the Lime Lake, Maple City area looking for color and found a few nice spots, but the peak is still a week away.

Another one of those days that had everything Mother Nature could bring. Deep dark clouds with pockets of blue and billowing whites. Drizzle at times with periods of snow. Temperature in the forties with wind gusts in the twenties. Leelanau County color is shown on TV at 50% with the peak predicted next weekend.

The morning began with incredible cloud formations to the east over Lake Leelanau. The ever changing sky continued all day. This weekend the “Peepers” should be rewarded with color that gets better as the day gets longer.

The super moon did, in fact, emerge from behind the cloud cover last night. I didn’t see the full eclipse, but caught it during the “second half.” We’ve been having a run of incredibly beautiful days, both with clear skies and otherwise… still thoroughly enjoyable. Later, the clouds began to obscure the moon again. Lake Leelanau, Sunday. Good Harbor Bay, Saturday…. Read more »

Anyway, returning to town I spotted this ’75/’77 IH Scout parked by the bridge. I had one just like it, roll bar and all. Brought back a lot of Leland memories. Jim Burnham could share a… Read more »

Sunrise this morning as seen from North Manitou Island. Strong winds and serious waves made the return trip an adventurous one. A beautiful day in the Leelanau and also the Big City By the Bay, had a dental visit. On the way back I stopped and took a picture of one of my favorite barns on CR633. The roof is caved in and it probably going back to earth soon. .

(Report by Jim today) Anyone driving down M22 South of Leland this morning may have seen me down in the poison ivy and reeds taking photos of the sunrise. Anyone who was paying attention saw a great cloud show that carried over into Fishtown. Lunch at Happy Hour and a trip down to roaring brook caps off a pre-barbecruise-day afternoon
