Vol XV #280 – A Very Bicentennial Sunset

This is one of the reasons we drive as far as we do to come up here. I followed Meggen and Joel Petersen down to Good Harbor Bay in search of the elusive “ice boulders” and even though we couldn’t find any, we were not disappointed because the sky exploded in a palette of orange and red. As I was taking… Read more »

Vol XV #277 – The Day Before the Last Day of the Year

I couldn’t make it to my usual destination, South Fishtown, because of the depth of snow… so I ventured over to South Beach.  I walked in the footprints of previous visitors.  That’s probably the way I will travel on foot for the rest of the winter, walking in other peoples footprints. Vol XV #256 – Wednesday’s Misty Boredom

I wondered what December 9th was like back when I started the Leland Report and discovered that there are as many snowless days as there are snowy.  I assume that there were misty ones too.  I noticed that Leif had changed his clothes again, probably because of the warmer weather.  Herr Professor apparently doesn’t have a change. The fish sausage… Read more »

Vol XV #226 – Meggen’s Monday

It’s another crystal-clear blue day, and mild for November. Sunday was perfect to take a leisurely drive the way all the way to the northern tip of the peninsula to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, with a mandatory stop along the way at Mr. Kilcherman’s Christmas Cove Farm. The collection of bottles is nothing short of phenomenal. And the apples… Read more »
