Vol XIX – #155 – What’s the Point

Report by Jim It’s been a couple of decades since I walked down the trail from the Pyramid Point Overlook down to the bowls. When I was a kid, people used to hang glide off the overlook. Now it’s a bit easier with parasailing. The wind was brisk up the side of the dune and provides needed uplift. Unfortunately for… Read more »

Vol XIX – #154 – Windy and Chilly but Sunny and That’s OK

Report by Jim A mixture of images from today (first image) the squall yesterday (2 – 4). I saw it coming over the Manitous on radar and was on the harbor dock when it came in. These are the last two shots before I had to run! But as it cleared, this is what was on the other side. This… Read more »

Vol XIX – #153 – May the Gale Force Be With You

Report by Jim Gale warning today! Parts of Fishtown were under water, but it had subsided by the time I got there. Go to http://fishtownmi.org if you want to help with the effort to repair the damage from this year’s record water level. From there, I walked up North Beach to the “no-go” zone. Above is a very natural approach… Read more »

Vol XIX – #128 – There ARE Other Places Beside Fishtown

(Report by Jim) I see so many shots of Fishtown that I know it has most of the love. I personally have an affinity for it, but I thought today I would show a little love for East Leland, Omena, and Northport. Some more jewels on the peninsula.

Vol XIX – #127 – Gulls on a Hot Tin Roof

(Report by Jim) Dad and I had a nice meeting with the Noontiders in Burdicksville south of Glen Arbor today to talk about the Leland Report and share some of our photos. We were very happy to share this with their group. On the way back, we caught some seagulls lollygagging on a barn roof. Last night, I stayed out… Read more »

Vol XIX – #126 – Creatures Great and Small

A storm rolled through Leland yesterday and I must have headed in the wrong direction because the images I saw over the harbor were great. But I always go to the harbor, so I headed out to East Leland instead. Earlier today, I zoomed in on my Mom’s Daisy garden and found a hitchhiker.

Vol XIX – #124 – Sunday Birthday

(Report by Jim) Water was glass on the North end of Lake Leelanau this morning, so I took out the kayak for a few miles. That was my workout for the day because the wind picked up and I was battling it the whole way back. Also, nothing makes a sailing trip as satisfying as having to make minor repairs… Read more »

Vol XIX – #96 – Lions and Lizards and Shanties oh my!

(Report by Jim) Town is crowded if you didn’t notice (if you are here and didn’t notice, then you didn’t leave the house). I decided not to even try to find space downtown and just parked the car at the top of the hill going north (glad I did, turning onto Main St was a lesson in futility). The drone… Read more »
