Vol XVI # 062 – Meggen’s Monday

Happy Memorial Day! Today we gratefully remember those who served, and deeply honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Leland town is hopping with activity. Across the Manitou Passage, North Manitou Island was also a beautiful place to be. Lilacs there are in full bloom. In the hours before the Manitou Island Transit arrived, the green space near the ranger… Read more »

Vol XVI # 061 – Wine Tasting Day

The day began with beautiful blue skies and puffy white clouds and around noon, dark clouds started moving in from the southwest and a sprinkle or two happened.  Other than that it was a beautiful Sunday in May.  Fishtown was filled to capacity with weekend visitors, places to park… none.

Vol XVI # 058 – Come On Down, the Waters Fine

The promised rain happened somewhere else. Still some fog lingering with occasional sunshine cutting through.  A nice day in spite of the forecast.

Vol XVI # 056 – Wildflowers

The  Wildflower Rescue team will be on hand this weekend at the Village Green with a lot of Trillium for sale.   Both Upper and Northern Lower peninsulas are under an extreme fire watch and No Burn Rule is in effect. Some rain is expected this week.

Vol XVI # 055 – Meggen’s Monday

We have been enjoying an outstanding several days of mild temperatures, clear skies, and lakes as calm as glass.

Vol XVI # 054 – Beautiful

The aerial photo shown above was actually taken 12 years ago on May 19, 2004.  If I could take flight today I venture to say…  it would look exactly to same.  The county is blessed with a fantastic show of cherry blossoms.

Vol XVI # 050 – More Nice Days Are On The Way

Overnight temperatures were below freezing for most of the Upper/Lower.  Cherry blossoms are the main concern when it drops to below 30 degrees.  Last year, grapes took the hit.  The forecast is… nicer days are on the way.  It looks nice and is starting to feel nice.

Vol XVI # 048 – Meggen’s Monday

One thing about cool temperatures is that flowers last a long time, which is delightful! Top photo today was a result of searching for northern lights and finding moonlit clouds instead. Thirty-second exposure: the streak on the horizon on the left side is the 767′ Cason J Callaway heading north.

Vol XVI # 047 – Looks Nice, But Doesn’t Feel Nice

Brrr… Winter returned with wind out of the north and near freezing temperatures with snow showers.  The sky opened up around noon and turned a beautiful blue.  Fishtown looked picture postcard good except there were no visitors.  Sunday afternoon on a sun shinny day in May and there ain’t nobody there.

Vol XVI # 046 – Wind, Rain and Then the Sun Came Out

A wintery beginning with rain, wind and dark skies.  Not a nice morning at all.  Falling Waters had a full house with guests for a Leland wedding, hopefully not on the beach. And then the skies began to clear at noon and the sun took over.  The wind dominated the beach scene and kites began to fly.  What kind of a… Read more »
