(Report by Jim today) Anyone driving down M22 South of Leland this morning may have seen me down in the poison ivy and reeds taking photos of the sunrise. Anyone who was paying attention saw a great cloud show that carried over into Fishtown. Lunch at Happy Hour and a trip down to roaring brook caps off a pre-barbecruise-day afternoon
The Leland Yacht Club held a memorial Sunfish Regatta dedicated to the memory of Past Commodore Jim Fenton. Jim was known for his love of racing his Sunfish and dedication to his years as LYC Commodore. Present along with family members were Past Commodores Norb Gits, Bill Bolinger, Ted Sichler, Keith Burnham, Mary Jo Grogan, John Stanley and Laura Paine.
Mid-morning the sky darkened and the “Dark Sky” app on my I Phone started alerting that possible severe weather is on it’s way. The “Radar” app confirmed that with a fast moving, very red graphic headed for Leland. The rain began to fall and power went out. The internet remained until just before noon and it went out. A number of years ago the Leelanau County Road Commission experimented with a new road surface from Leland north to Leelanau Township. It has been the worst decision they ever made and we have been listening to the road noise and rattling trucks ever since. Today another section of it has been removed and replaced. Yea!
