Back in Leland for the next week or so. I went down to Van’s Beach to see if the dredging was starting, but nothing is set up yet. Our resident porcupine decided to spend the day outside on the limb of his home. I went out to take a closer look and saw him waddle slowly back into his… Read more »
The 2023 Leland Report Calendar is currently at the printers and I expect to ship by the end of this October. We no longer post every day, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have images to share. We thank you for your support as you make this worthwhile for us. I am limiting the printing to 200 calendars this… Read more »
I’m back home in Illinois, but it was an eventful week. Reunited with old friends at Riverside Inn at the beginning of the trip and then at a memorial for Nick Sica on our way back. My sister “The Mar” came in from Oregon and reunited with an old friend and Leland Report follower Amy Evans Rullo at… Read more »
After the rain stopped, it looked like a good time to visit the dunes again near the Cannery off M109. The clouds helped me out again while we were there.
The Cove cam gave me a clue that there was going to be a decent sunset coming, so I headed down to the breakwall to get some drone shots of the harbor. I had to get a little wet to get the kiteboarding shots at the long end. For those that knew and loved Maryellen Hadjisky, there will be a… Read more »

I’m not talking a small one, mind you, this was a massive one that could inundate our peaceful town with thousands of gawky iPhone-laden tourists all at once! Imagine the lines at the Cheese Shanty after a visit with one of these monsters. And the… Read more »
I dropped off some more Leland Report books at Leelanau Books in Leland last week and Paula handed me an Oxford Essential Atlas 8th Edition which has the Leelanau Peninsula on the cover! She has a shelf full of them, so go pick one up. It’s now been six years since I came out with “The Leland Report- 15 Years… Read more »
A couple inches of snow fell overnight replacing what we lost yesterday. My goal was to hike Leelanau Conservancy trails Shauger Hill and Windy Moraine, but ended up hiking up Pierce Stocking to the N Bar Lake and Lake Michigan overlooks first instead (having completely missed the Shauger Hill trailhead at the entrance to the parking lot). Pierce Stocking Drive… Read more »
The 2022 Leland Report Calendar is the 16th consecutive calendar we have put out. For the last 16 years, I have assembled 12 of our best photos from a huge number to choose from. This isn’t as easy as uploading 12 photos and having a printer print out X number of calendars. I manually edited every page, placed all the… Read more »
