Vol XV #168 – Another Beautiful Day in the Land of Delight

The Server was doing it’s job this AM when I got up and by 8:30 am I posted yesterday’s Report.  Around noon it failed again, but it’s up and running now.  Today is one of those picture postcard days with indigo blue skies and puffy white clouds.  This is a wine tasting weekend and Boathouse Wine had a front yard… Read more »

Vol XV #153 – A Place to Sit and Remember

A nice place to sit and remember all the good times and wonderful Leland relationships we had spending our summers here and not forgetting how important those relationships were, especially with those no longer with us.  With great sadness we report the passing of Therese Gits Larson this afternoon, she was 89 Memories of 1941 at the Beach House (Therese,… Read more »

Vol XV #140 – The Wonderful World of Ellie Golden

One of my favorite piece’s of artwork hanging on my wall is an Ellie Golden Fishtown watercolor.  Last night, the Old Art Building was host to a amazing exhibit of Ellie’s work in many mediums.  The exhibit continues today and tomorrow.   It’s no secret that Leland is an artist’s haven and we are very fortunate to have so many talented artists as our… Read more »

Vol XV #132 – Not Much Bark and a Bite to Eat

(Report by Jim today) Anyone driving down M22 South of Leland this morning may have seen me down in the poison ivy and reeds taking photos of the sunrise. Anyone who was paying attention saw a great cloud show that carried over into Fishtown. Lunch at Happy Hour and a trip down to roaring brook caps off a pre-barbecruise-day afternoon

Vol XV #130 – A Perfect Leland Day Indeed

All the Charter boats were out on Big Blue early this morning leaving the home port empty. Leland was lucky in the aftermath of Sunday’s storm, Glen Arbor not so.  The access to the dunes and Stocking Drive are all closed to traffic as well as Glen Haven, Glen Arbor along with the surrounding area. Thousands are still without… Read more »

Vol XV #129 – A Powerful Day Indeed

This week is the last week of Sailing School at the Leland Yacht Club, our grandkids, Meredith and Daniel Burnham along with Biscuit and the rest of the crew sat for a group picture. Our power outage lasted approx. 46 hours, not bad considering that the prediction was for Thursday at 4:00 pm which would have meant about 90… Read more »

Vol XV #128 – Meggen’s Monday!

The calm that follows a severe storm is a welcome thing – the hush that accompanies the startled look around. Much work lies ahead in cleaning up around the area. Thanks to everyone who responded in any way possible – re-routing traffic, cutting up trees, protecting downed power lines, and helping those that were stranded.

Vol XV #125 – Wine Tasting You Can Boat To

Boathouse Winery has a great outdoor tasting area that can be accessed by boat.  And while you’re there enjoy the view. I passed by the, for better words, the “Steelcase House” last evening on the way to Northport.  On August, 22, 2004, I featured it on the Leland Report not knowing exactly what it was I made fun of… Read more »
