Vol XV #132 – Not Much Bark and a Bite to Eat

(Report by Jim today) Anyone driving down M22 South of Leland this morning may have seen me down in the poison ivy and reeds taking photos of the sunrise. Anyone who was paying attention saw a great cloud show that carried over into Fishtown. Lunch at Happy Hour and a trip down to roaring brook caps off a pre-barbecruise-day afternoon

Vol XV #131 – Beyond the Little Red Schoolhouse

Biscuit and I decided to check out the Little Red Schoolhouse and found it to be in excellent condition, especially with it’s new coat of paint. Just beyond, around the bend the destruction began.  Trees were flattened on both sides of the road.  The power was still out in the Glen Lake Area at noon,  9&10 News reported 9,000… Read more »

Vol XV #130 – A Perfect Leland Day Indeed

All the Charter boats were out on Big Blue early this morning leaving the home port empty. Leland was lucky in the aftermath of Sunday’s storm, Glen Arbor not so.  The access to the dunes and Stocking Drive are all closed to traffic as well as Glen Haven, Glen Arbor along with the surrounding area. Thousands are still without… Read more »

Vol XV #129 – A Powerful Day Indeed

This week is the last week of Sailing School at the Leland Yacht Club, our grandkids, Meredith and Daniel Burnham along with Biscuit and the rest of the crew sat for a group picture. Our power outage lasted approx. 46 hours, not bad considering that the prediction was for Thursday at 4:00 pm which would have meant about 90… Read more »

Vol XV #128 – Meggen’s Monday!

The calm that follows a severe storm is a welcome thing – the hush that accompanies the startled look around. Much work lies ahead in cleaning up around the area. Thanks to everyone who responded in any way possible – re-routing traffic, cutting up trees, protecting downed power lines, and helping those that were stranded.

Vol XV #127 – Summer Storm of 2015

Got a call early this morning from Leland. “Looks like you’ll be doing the report tonight, the power is out here.” As of 5pm, the power was still out and judging from the damage, it will be out for a while. Hope everyone is safe and dry.  -Jim After the storm…

Vol XV #126 – The Leland Coffee Club

Congratulations to this newly married couple exiting Fishtown as I arrived. The International Coffee Club of America, Leland Coffee Club, held it’s last sip this morning at the Leland Fire House. It’s next sip will be Monday morning at the Leland Lodge. The club was organized on March 4th, 1964 and has no by-laws, no officers, no dues and… Read more »

Vol XV #125 – Wine Tasting You Can Boat To

Boathouse Winery has a great outdoor tasting area that can be accessed by boat.  And while you’re there enjoy the view. I passed by the, for better words, the “Steelcase House” last evening on the way to Northport.  On August, 22, 2004, I featured it on the Leland Report not knowing exactly what it was I made fun of… Read more »

Vol XV #124 – Van’s Beach On a Breezy Morning

The morning began breezy with a chance of beautiful and it was.  The harbor was full up with a few hanger backs because of the wind out of the west at 16 mph. Of course local businesses like this a lot as it keeps captive boaters in town to shop and dine.
